Splicing Lines |
|
I use a tool from Brion Toss called the "Splicing Wand" and Brion's book called "The Complete Rigger's Apprentice". Using these two, I can make better and stronger splices than I have seen from other books or instructions any where. The "Splicing Wand" is a unique tool and allows for a better splice than you can get with fids. Brion's Splicing Wand uses a probe and lair method to PULL the line through rather than the traditional fid method to PUSH the line through. That allows you to get more line through a small area because you don't have the added thickness of a fid to push through. I also have Brion's video "Making Eye Splices". You can find all of these and more at Brion's web site:

The book and video cover how to make splices in virtually all the common types of rope. I met Brion at a boat show in Seattle a few years ago. He showed me how to make a better eye splice in double braid using his Splicing Wand. It allows you to make a much STRONGER splice. I bought his tool, book and video right away. They have been very helpful in all my splicing. I highly recommend that you get all three of these. You should be able to find them at West Marine. Not cheap! But very much worth the price. |
